Rumored to have been built for the Queen of Spain, Rienzi Plantation in Thibodaux dates back to the 18th century. The beautiful plantation was recently donated to Nicholls State University for the Culinary Arts Institute. |

Oak Alley Plantation |

Only 25 minutes from Thibodaux stands the majestic Oak Alley Plantation along the Mississippi River. A quarter-mile alley of twenty-eight sheltering oaks over 250 years old still greets you today. The present day plantation, a National Historic Landmark, was built in 1839 when Southern aristocracy ruled the land. Daily tours and events are held throughout the year.

Edward Douglas White Historic Site |

The Edward Douglas White Historic Site is the home of the late Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Edward Douglass White (1845 - 1921). In 1910, White became the only Louisiana Court Justice to be appointed to the post of Chief Justice. The historic site is located just outside of the city limits of Thibodaux and was extensively restored. An annual festival celebrating “Art under the Oaks” is held in April of each year. |

Madewood Plantation |

Madewood Plantation on Bayou Lafourche is a 21-room mansion built in 1846. Its name is derived from its construction of wood from trees on the property. One of the largest plantation houses in Louisiana, Madewood was bought and renovated in 1964 by Naomi and Harold Marshall. Their son, Keith Marshall, the present owner, collected many of the pieces of furniture when he studied as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University in England. In 1983, the Department of the Interior designated Madewood a National Historic Landmark.

St. Joseph Co-Cathedral |

St. Joseph Co-Cathedral Church is Renaissance Romanesque in design with several major features reflecting architectural design common to churches in Paris and Rome. The splendid Rose Window in the rear of the church is modeled after the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. This church, along with many other churches within the community, serves to give glory to God and is a gathering place for prayer and celebration |

St. John's Episcopal Church |

St. John's Episcopal Church is the oldest Episcopal Church west of the Mississippi River. Consecrated by Bishop Leonidas Polk in 1844, this Episcopal Church is noted for Georgian architecture. Polk, fighting bishop of the Confederacy, is buried in its adjoining historic cemetery.

Courthouse of Lafourche Parish |

The historic Courthouse of Lafourche Parish, located in downtown Thibodaux, was built in 1858. This structure was significantly remodeled in 1903 and again in the 1950’s. This building is the second oldest courthouse in Louisiana and still possesses significance in the area of politics/government to our area.
